| History of the Faculty of Language and Arts |
| Established in 1990 under the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 089/O/1990 dated July 5, 1990, the Faculty of Language and Arts Education (FPBS) of Universitas PGRI Semarang has been a cornerstone of excellence in language and arts teacher education for more than three decades. Initially, the faculty was entrusted with the management of two study programs: the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program (PBSI) and the English Language Education Program (PBI). As educational needs evolved, the faculty continuously adapted and expanded its academic offerings. In 2007, the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program was restructured into the Indonesian and Regional Language and Literature Education Program, which later developed two concentrations: Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) and Javanese Language and Literature Education (PBSJ). Following further academic development and government approval, the Javanese Language and Literature Education concentration gained independent status in 2013 as the Regional Language and Literature Education Program (PBSD). Since then, FPBS has managed three distinguished study programs: Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI), English Language Education (PBI), and Regional Language and Literature Education (PBSD). The growth and achievements of FPBS have been shaped by dedicated leadership across generations. The faculty’s first dean, Drs. Sulistiyo (1990–1997), laid a strong foundation characterized by discipline, collegiality, and responsibility. His vision was continued by Drs. Wiyaka (1997–2000) and Dra. Sri Suciati (2000–2003), who strengthened the faculty’s academic direction and institutional culture. Leadership then passed to Drs. Nur Hidayat (2003–2007), followed by Drs. Ngasbun Edgar, M.Pd. (2007–2011), and Dra. Sri Suciati, M.Hum. (2011–2015). The faculty continued its advancement under the leadership of Dr. Asropah, M.Pd., who served two consecutive terms from 2015 to 2023. Subsequently, Drs. Ngasbun Edgar, M.Pd. returned to lead the faculty during the 2023–2024 period, ensuring continuity in academic development and institutional progress. Since 2024, the faculty has been led by Siti Musarokah, M.Pd., who continues to strengthen FPBS’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and global engagement. Today, the Faculty of Language and Arts Education proudly upholds its legacy of educational excellence while preparing future educators, researchers, and professionals who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to society at both national and international levels. With a strong academic tradition and a commitment to continuous improvement, FPBS remains dedicated to fostering creativity, cultural awareness, and lifelong learning in an increasingly interconnected world. |
